Employers interested in building and retaining strong workforces have long recognized the value of robust training and talent development programs that support employee advancement. Retaining current employees and developing talent internally is critically important these days, when businesses are having difficulty filling jobs despite high unemployment rates. And for companies with large numbers of people in frontline jobs, providing entry-level employees with training opportunities can be an effective way to build a strong pipeline to meet the ongoing need for talent to fill midlevel jobs.
At JFF, we believe how you invest in these employees matters—from the development of the right training program to the operational partnerships that make it work.
Tyson Foods is taking an innovative approach to supporting its team of frontline workers in meat-processing plants, 60 percent of whom are immigrants and refugees representing more than 60 countries. For the past several years, Tyson and JFF have been developing a program to invest in these team members: Upward Pathways. Designed to provide incumbent workers with opportunities to build the skills needed to advance into hard-to-fill roles, Upward Pathways combines basic instruction in math and English with coursework that promotes digital literacy and helps participants build on-the-job skills.
